The Department of Lands, Resources and Environment at Magnetawan First Nation has been running a successful species at risk program focused on herpetofauna since 2012. This programs focus is on road ecology and population monitoring for various species at risk reptiles found on MagFN. This program will be celebrating 10 years of monitoring this year (2022). In 2018, their department also became a Turtle Incubation and First Aid Station. Their team of experts work very hard each and every season in the protection, education, first aid stabilization and transportation to rehabilitation facilities in order to make a positive impact on the declining turtle populations in our area.
